Another legend and musical influence of more than two generations has left this earth. According to his official website:
"The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."
Singer/songwriter, bassist extraordinaire for the legendary rock band Cream, Jack Bruce passed away today, Saturday, October 25. He was 71.
One of the greatest rock trios of all time, Cream was formed by Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker in 1966 writing and producing such hits as "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room," and "Strange Brew" while on acid and heavy drugs. The band was as notorious for it's drug use as it's musical talent, but still managed to make some of the greatest recordings in rock history.
Infighting and drug use led to the band's demise in 1968, but in that time some of the best rock music in the world was produced.
According to his official biography, "Jack felt that he had strayed too far from his ideals and wanted to rediscover his musical and social roots."
Cream reunited briefly in 1993 for the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Baker expressed his condolences for "the loss of a fine man."
Bruce went on to record many solo albums. He released more than a dozen solo LPs after Cream, included his latest, "Silver Rails," in March, 2014.
Personally, as a musician, Cream had a tremendous influence on my development as a guitar player.
Music has truly lost one of the masters of his instrument, the bass guitar and one of the great singer/songwriters of all time. Rest In Peace, Jack Bruce.
